The Brief

What the client needed.

A beach club is not a hotel: nothing is admired from a distance. Guests walk through it barefoot, pull the curtains aside themselves, lean on the screens and photograph all of it, from the boardwalk arrival at dusk to the coffee bar at midnight. So Beach needed an atmosphere rather than a set of objects, and it had to survive a full season of that contact plus salt, moisture and direct Aegean sun. The other requirement was time-of-day: the same pieces had to carry the arrival at golden hour and still hold the room when the only light is warm and coming from below.

Our Approach

How we designed it.

We designed the club as a sequence of thresholds and gave each one the same rope vocabulary at a different scale. The arrival is marked by hanging ball-and-tassel columns along the lit boardwalk — the largest, simplest gesture, readable from the car park. At the terrace the weave goes overhead: fringed pergola canopies and a net ceiling closure that turn the midday sun into pattern, and a chevron tassel ceiling over the coffee bar that becomes the light source at night when it is lit from beneath. At body scale, beaded and wooden-ball screens divide the cabana decks so each has a room of its own with the bay still visible through it, and a twisted-weave curtain fills the stone doorway. Then the pieces that reward standing still: a mandala panel above the carved sign, an agate-and-rope screen against the sky, and a shell-and-rope wall built around a round mirror that puts the sea behind whoever is standing in front of it. Salt-resistant cord throughout, and the façades were finished by hand on site rather than hung ready-made.
