Regnum The Crown

The rooftop pool cabana at Regnum Crown, enclosed in floor-length hand-twisted rope curtains with rope tiebacks and a woven pendant above — privacy that opens in seconds and holds the view when it does.

The Brief

What the client needed.

The Crown is Regnum Carya’s most private wing, and its rooftop pool is the room guests are shown last. The cabana there had one hard requirement: privacy on demand, without ever giving up the view. Anything hinged or panelled would have closed the room permanently; anything sheer would not have screened it at all. It also had to work at night, because the rooftop is used after dark and the cabana is lit from a single warm source — the piece is seen backlit and up close, by guests who are lying down and have nothing else to look at.

Our Approach

How we designed it.

We made the enclosure itself the textile. Floor-length curtains of hand-twisted natural rope hang on all open sides: heavy enough that their own weight keeps them still in rooftop wind, dense enough to screen a body at a metre, and open at the fringe so light and air still pass. Rope tiebacks let staff — or the guest — take the room from closed to open in seconds, and the tieback knot is finished to be looked at, because at that height it sits at eye level. A woven pendant over the daybed puts the same material overhead, so the warm light at night comes through the weave instead of past it. Undyed natural rope throughout: it sits with the concrete and the timber the wing was already built in, and it does not fade off-tone the way a dyed cord would after a season on a roof.
