NG Phaselis Bay 2026
The 2026 season at NG Phaselis Bay — the hand-spliced rope balustrade extended the full length of the rebuilt jetty and along the rocky shore walk, in the same natural rope as the earlier phases.
What the client needed.
This is the second phase of a relationship that has been running for years at the same resort. The jetty and the shore walk were rebuilt for the 2026 season, and the new decking needed a balustrade along its whole length — including the exposed rock section where the ground moves and the fixings cannot follow a straight line. Anything off-the-shelf, steel or plastic, would have broken the natural-material line already established through the beach lounge and the earlier jetty work. The rail also has to do real work: it is the only thing between a guest and the sea for the length of the walk.
How we designed it.
We continued the existing language rather than designing a new one. Natural rope is swagged post to post at a constant drop, so the rhythm reads down the whole jetty from the shore, and each fixing is hand-spliced instead of clamped — a splice sits flush, so nothing sharp is left where hands run. On the rock section the post spacing follows the stone instead of a grid, and the rail is carried in one continuous line so the walk reads as one piece from the beach. Posts are wrapped where they are held. Everything is undyed natural rope with marine-grade fittings, chosen so the new work weathers at the same rate as the rope already in place from the previous seasons.
