MC Arancia Resort Hotel
Two registers of the same craft at MC Arancia, Side — a saturated red and copper fringe ceiling over the open-air dining pavilion, and ivory beaded ball-and-tassel screens at eye level through the restaurant.
What the client needed.
MC Arancia’s dining spaces run from an open-air bamboo pavilion to an air-conditioned fine-dining room, and the hotel wanted them recognisably related without repeating the same object twice. The pavilion had the harder problem: a bamboo roof structure that is beautiful from below but visually busy, seen mostly in bright daylight from a seated position. The restaurant interior had the opposite one — large glazed openings that needed softening without losing the garden behind them. Both had to work at night, when the only light is warm and directly on the piece.
How we designed it.
We split the work into two registers. Overhead in the pavilion, a fringe ceiling in red, burgundy and copper is hung as the ceiling finish itself, not as decoration under it — the colour reads through the bamboo from the whole garden, and in the evening it is what the warm light lands on. At the centre a layered fringe chandelier gives the pavilion a middle to sit around. Inside, the same craft drops to ivory: beaded ball-and-tassel panels over the windows and behind the banquettes filter the garden without closing it, and the colour stays out of the way of the plates, which is what a fine-dining room needs from a textile. The language then comes down to touch — a jute-wrapped sculptural column on the terrace, a rope-seat stool, and a vertical rope curtain screening the washroom approach, so the material shows up in the parts of the property nobody photographs and everybody uses.
